Within this workshop Stef Lemmens asks participants to bring screenshots of online hate speech they come across. By directly manipulating these comments they are able to search for meaning underneath the hate. We first practice on printed screenshots of these hate comments. Afterwards we will create our final version of the poem in Photoshop, after which it will be shared on the instagram page @hate_speech_poetry. With this workshop he wants to show that hate should not be fought with more hate, nor should it be ignored. Instead we can use it as a strength. The original emotions of the writer are still present in these manipulated texts, but they become more suggestive and less short-sighted, making it possible to carry more meaning.
