Within our project we want to take back the responsibility of all the waste we create, including the ‘leftover material’ coming from our own bodies. By using a compost toilet we want to transform this human ‘waste’ into a valuable resource. We collect our excrements and urine at a compost pile that will reach high temperatures, which will break down harmful pathogens. After 2-3 years this will result in a high quality compost soil which can be used again to grow vegetables in the garden. This way we hope to become a part once again of the natural cycle. This compost toilet was designed by Mirte Menève and constructed by various participants throughout a course of workshops. When designing a new structure on our settlements, we want to involve as many people as we can to learn together from this experipence.
