Deana Kolencikova graduted from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia in 2016. During her studies she was also studying at the Nottingham Trent University in the UK and at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna, Austria. She mainly works with the mediums of intervention in public space, photography, site-specific installation and performance. Her focus is mainly on social-political aspects of everyday life and absurdity.
She has been exhibiting throughout Europe and was part of several international workshops, symposiums and Summer Academy in Salzburg. She was a finalist of the Taylor Wessing Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London, UK (2013), ESSL Art Award in Bratislava and Vienna (2015), Startpoint Prize in Prague (2016) and winner of VÚB Photo of the Year (2013). She was in art residency at Nástupište 1_12 in Topolčany,SK, at Centre d’art Le Lait, Albi, FR and at Studio Bubec, Prague, CZ.

Deana about joining The School Hasselt:I’m focusing on the urban playground. This topic is very close to the range of my interests. I like to think about what an urban playground could be, not just as a physical playground for children but as a space within the public space open for an interactive dialogue between the interventionist and the passers-by.
