Hout Verbindt, participatory performance, 2024
In times when loud voices succeed in driving us apart, the need for connection feels immense. But how do we reconnect with each other? How do we start a conversation with a stranger? What starting point can we create to initiate dialogue?
For this project, we designed a table using traditional wood joints. Each of the four table legs consists of two pieces that fit together seamlessly. During this intervention, we ask eight participants to wear these individual pieces as necklaces. We then invite them to search for the person with the matching piece within the same area and meet us at a cozy spot at a specific time. Together, the participants assemble the table and are offered a fresh cup of tea while getting to know each other better.
Hout Verbindt was initiated by Nomad City for the Festival van de Gelijkheid. The project was led by Elke Cuppens, Rob Hillen, and Stef Lemmens.
