Stef Lemmens is researching ways to extract fibre from the Stinging Nettle. Through the steps of picking, retting, peeling, scraping, rubbing, carding and finally weaving, he turns this unwanted friend into a natural yarn. In this workshop you can join him for a walk in which we first collect the nettles, depending on the weather we can process them outside or inside the atelier of FAX. Stef was inspired by Allan Brown, who has researched nettles for a long time and even made a dress out of it for his daughter. You can find more of his research on Nettles for Textiles.
