Rob Hillen introduced us to the world of Cattail, Yellow Iris & Branched bur-reed… These plants can be transformed into beautiful natural objects such as baskets, hats or other practical items. Rob was inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer who writes about the intimate relationship between Cattails en various indigenous American cultures in her book Braiding Sweetgrass. Starting from a playful and experimental curiosity, Rob tries out various techniques using only essential tools. We set up our workspace at FAX, in the city center, where curious window shoppers seemed surprised to find this natural DIY corner, surrounded by boutiques and cafes. With this workshop, Rob also wants to create moments in which people can come together and enjoy an activity without the necessity to consume.
