In our current society it is very difficult to live without a phone or laptop. Almost everything we do in real life seems entangled with our online world. We send emails for a job interview, search a Facebook event for a concert or we just want to share some pictures of our pets with friends and family far away. Although we are researching an essence of life within the Nomad City project, it is safe to say that we don't want to isolate ourselves from the digital world and everyone we know. There are many aspects about modern technology that can be questioned, but we believe that in this day and age our phones and laptops are, unfortunately, becoming more and more a necessity in order to fully participate in this society. The whole reason we are doing this project in the heart of the city, instead of a remote forest or industrial site, is because we want to connect with and inspire as many people as possible. We see our laptops and phones as tools that can help us achieve this goal. Just like everybody else we waste some time scrolling on Facebook or Instagram, but we also use these machines to gain information that was never more accessible than now. With a touch on our phone we can learn what weeds are edible, we can rediscover old crafting techniques and read about the social structures within an ancient culture. Within the Nomad City project we don't want to be ignorant, we want to use tools from both past and present to gain and share as much information as possible. What are you doing with your phone today?
