Traffic Code

‣
Accompaniment:

Harnessed animals must be accompanied by as many attendants as required for traffic safety. In any case, one attendant must assist the driver of the vehicle as soon as more than five animals are harnessed.

When a harnessed team pulls another vehicle and the length of the tow—excluding the drawbar of the first vehicle—exceeds 16 meters, an attendant must accompany the second vehicle.

The driver of draft, pack, or ridden animals, as well as livestock, must be assisted by a sufficient number of attendants, if necessary.

‣
Lights:

Harnessed animals, handcarts, unharnessed draft animals, pack or ridden animals, and livestock must display:

a) At the front, a white or yellow light.

b) At the rear, a red light.

These lights may be combined into a single device placed or carried on the left side, except in the following cases:

a) If the harnessed team pulls another vehicle.

b) If the herd consists of six or more animals.

‣
Reflectors:

1° Harnessed vehicles must display two red reflectors at the rear.

These reflectors must be triangular, securely fixed, and approved. One vertex of the triangle must point upwards, while the opposite side is horizontal.

2° One or more orange reflectors may be placed on the sides of the vehicle.

3° The reflectors must always remain clearly visible.

‣
Brakes:

Harnessed vehicles must be equipped with an adequately effective braking system.

This requirement does not apply to two-wheeled harnessed vehicles with a loaded mass not exceeding 1,000 kg, where the harness ensures the vehicle stops simultaneously with the draft animal.

‣
Dimensions:

The dimensions of harnessed vehicles must not exceed those specified in the technical regulations for motor vehicles.

‣
Technical regulations for motor vehicles:

Height: max 4 m

Width: max 2.55 m

Length: max 12 m

Application Nomad City:

  • We always have one person at the front and one at the back to accompany each horse-drawn carriage house.
  • We always transport the houses during the day, making lights unnecessary. If lights are needed, bicycle lights are sufficient.
  • Each horse-drawn carriage house is equipped with red triangular reflectors at the back and orange reflectors at the rear, bottom, and sides, placed at the most protruding point of the carriage.
  • The horse-drawn carriage houses do not have brakes because they weigh less than 1,000 kg and can be easily stopped with the help of the two attendants.
  • The maximum dimensions do not exceed those of cars (4 m high, 2.55 m wide, 12 m long).
