IBC Tote Shower

The Nomad City Shower
The Nomad City Shower

Pro’s

‣
Cost-Effective:

Using IBC totes as the framework for a shower cabin is often more cost-effective compared to purchasing pre-made shower structures or building custom cabins from scratch. IBC totes are readily available and relatively inexpensive, making them an affordable option for DIY projects.

‣
Quick Assembly:

Setting up a shower cabin with stacked IBC totes is relatively quick and easy compared to traditional construction methods. The totes provide a ready-made framework that requires minimal modification, cutting down on labor and construction time.

‣
Portable:

Despite their size, stacked IBC totes can be relatively portable compared to permanent shower structures. They can be moved or relocated as needed, making them suitable for temporary or mobile shower setups, such as outdoor events, festivals, or camping sites.

‣
Customizable:

IBC totes can be customized to suit individual preferences and needs. Users can add features such as a shower head, faucet, door, or privacy curtains to create a comfortable and functional shower space tailored to their requirements.

Future experiments

  • Possibility to pre filter water with active charcoal at the bottom?
  • Possibility to filter water inside the shower with plants?

Con’s

‣
Limited Space:

The interior space of a shower cabin made from stacked IBC totes may be limited, especially if standard-sized totes are used. This could result in a cramped or claustrophobic showering experience, particularly for taller individuals or those who require additional space.

‣
Structural Integrity:

Stacking IBC totes on top of each other requires careful consideration of structural integrity and safety. Proper bracing, anchoring, and reinforcement are essential to prevent tipping, collapsing, or other structural failures, especially in windy or unstable conditions.

‣
Durability:

While durable, IBC totes may not be designed to withstand prolonged exposure to moisture, sunlight, and outdoor elements. Over time, exposure to these conditions could cause the totes to degrade, weaken, or develop leaks, compromising the integrity of the shower cabin.

‣
Aesthetic Appeal:

Shower cabins made from stacked IBC totes may lack the aesthetic appeal of more traditional or custom-built structures. The industrial look of the totes and visible metal cage may not blend well with the surrounding environment or outdoor decor.

‣
Maintenance Requirements:

Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure the continued functionality and safety of a shower cabin made from stacked IBC totes. This includes inspecting for leaks, corrosion, or damage, as well as cleaning and sanitizing the interior surfaces to prevent mold, mildew, or bacterial growth.

‣
Increase hight for filtering:

To filter the water with a helophyte filter system, you need to place the shower higher so the water can flow in the filter system.

Pro’s

This system is mostly used for sinks but after trying many other shower systems, we found out this also works perfectly for showering. For us this is the best and most simple system for showering. You just connect two hoses to the pump, one from a bucket of hot/cold water and one for your shower head. With your foot you control the flow of water. The flow is very strong.

‣
Not Durable:

The cushion is rather weakly designed and can rip fast, losing the pressure you need to the shower. I do not recommend buying this

Con’s

  • The flow of water is rather weak, not so effective for showering with longer hair
  • Shower bag is supposed to heat due to its black color but it goes really slowly
